Raspberry Pi

February 3rd, 2015

Woot!  Got a Raspberry Pi B+ for Christmas this year.  It really has some possibilities, being essentially a complete PC on a tiny board.  Ordered a small powered USB hub to go with it, as well as a case for the Pi itself to keep it safe.  I’m thinking a XBMC or a slide show picture frame thing would be 2 fairly easy projects.

I got an Arduino Uno R3 last year.  I had fun playing with it, but lack of time/parts put a damper on it.  When we get the basement finished, I hope to have a workbench area to play with it.  I was really hoping Matthew might take an interest in it, as he is a smart kid and really good at math, but so far, no luck.  Maybe Mason will take an interest.

I’m a ‘Pa-Pa’

February 3rd, 2015

From the “I should write more often” department…

Four years ago, I became a ‘pa-pa’.  Nothing really about Beth being pregnant or ‘going to have a baby’ got me excited or anything throughout the whole nine months, but the moment I laid eyes on little Mason, everything changed.  He makes me happier than I can ever remember, just being.  He’s really my ‘Little Buddy’.  I should get a Skipper hat…  I think, though, I’ve spoiled him too much over time, and he knows it.  He can be a real pill at times now, but I will gladly put up with it all just for one hug from the little guy.

Ahhh, the basement…

February 3rd, 2015

After 8 years, the basement is framed, at least the front 2/3, except for the soffet/chase around the ductwork/sewer drain up on the ceiling.  I will put one more wall in the back 1/3 to separate mechanical from storage, but that will come later.   Have started putting in the electrical boxes where I know they need to go.  Just have to decide on 3-ways, 4-ways, can lights, ceiling fans, and whether to make a kitchenette or not.  If so, will need to decide the layout.  The biggest single item expense I have left, other than possible appliances, I believe is the grinder pump.  Most everything else is nickel and dime, relatively speaking.

After all these years, the basement needs a good spring cleaning to get rid of things we really don’t need to save, and I will decimate my computer just.  Yes, 9/10 of it, volume wise, is headed to the trash, after some time spent sorting.  The storage area need to be for storage of needed things, not junk.

Dear Diary…

How can it all go to shit just like that?  No, not the economy.  I’m going to stroke out any day now.  I can’t hold it together anymore.  There’s too many of them all fighting against …common sense, if nothing else.

New Home – 9/28/06

February 25th, 2008

The country, finally!  Well, barely.  Actually, the property touches city limits, but we are ‘outside’.  And on her birthday, to boot!

New house, no grass, no pavement on the driveway yet, unfinished basement, mother-in-law right next door, but it sits on 5 acres, so it’s a plus.  Had to take a second job to make the payment, so I don’t get to see the place too much it seems.

Moving…UGH!  After 20+ years and 3 kids, the old 3 bed, 1 bath, 1 car garage place was so beyond cramped.  We took a 12 foot trailer load to the ‘burn pile’, put about twice that much out for the trash pickup, and it still took 4 days to move across town! (Thanks for the use of the trailer, Frank!)

Hello world!

Trying out WordPress, Nucleus, and b2evolution.  I’ll see which one I like best.
